In memory of our treasurer Bill Ross I have decided to award 5 scholarship places for LBCT each term (one for each section)
These members have been chosen for their commitment, enthusiasm, attendance and progress in their respective groups
There are many many members who deserve these but we thought by giving these out each term lots of members will eventually benefit
We hope to have a special celebration board erected at The Barn with recipients names on and also to give each recipient a small trophy as a keepsake.
No fees will be payable by the winners for one term only
I am delighted to announce the winners this term (Summer 2013) are

Summer School 2012

Aladdin the Disney Musical was the show choice for Leighton Buzzard Children’s Theatre Summer School this year. The challenge was to put a show together in less than a week. Over 50 young people aged 5-18 worked together to bring “Arabian Nights” to The Leighton Buzzard Theatre for two packed out performances. The cast members spent either mornings or afternoons working at The Barn in Heath and Reach and THe Drama Studio at Vandyke Upper school for just 4 days before transferring the production to the Leighton Buzzard Theatre. Theatre director Sally Allsopp says” The quality of the performances was stunning, I could not believe how much they did in just 4 and a half days. Aladdin played by 15 year old Seb Cridland and Jasmine played by Josie Derland also 15 led the cast through the story with confidence and passion.Josie also took on the role of choreographer. Rosie Brookes played the Genie fabulously and sang and showstopper “Friend like Me” brilliantly. Jafar, Karl Rushby and Iago, Juliette Flach added the “evil factor” perfectly. The one act show was fully costumed and choreographed in just a few days. The group were led by volunteers mostly aged 14-24 , giving up their time for the community-it was fantastic to see young people helping each other, learning stagecraft, singing, acting and dancing and having such fun.”
£300 was raised from the Summer school for The British Heart Foundation. LBCT exists for the community and over the last 17 years has raised over £50,000 for local, national and international charities.

In Celebration of Shakespeare

The Leighton Buzzard Theatre - June 2012

Leighton Buzzard Children’s Theatre members are celebrating raising £1600 for Macmillan Cancer Support as a result of their Shakespeare 2012 festival. !30 performers aged 5-25 took to the stage over two days in performances of Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Midsummer Night’s Dream and Dream On-a musical adaption for the younger casts. Director Sally Allsopp who has led the group over 16 years said “The Leighton Buzzard Shakespeare 2012 Festival was fantastic- the audiences were brilliant and the young performers were amazing.”

Review by Josie Farmer:

The Leighton Buzzard Mini theatre children aged 5-9 performed “Dream On” alongside the Children’s Theatre members aged 9-13. “Dream on” was wonderful- seeing such young children access Shakespeare and have such fun with it was brilliant. There were so many stars from the young lovers, the mechanicals and the fairies. Special mention to Eleanor Moyle and Jacob Towson who were outstanding.

The Youth Sections performed Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth - there were again outstanding performances. The settings were simple but very effective and costumes enhanced the productions. A sound track underscored both productions which gave them a haunting quality. Special mentions to Ishana Meadows as Lady Macbeth and Andrew Fell as Macbeth. Suzanne Taylor as Lady Capulet was superb as was young Lauren Culley as Juliet.
The two day festival ended each night with a production by LBCT’s oldest group The Advance Theatre Company. The adaption of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was faultless with perfect production elements, acting and such fun. The company played multiple roles with Kieran Faulkner giving a hilarious portrayal as Bottom the weaver. The fairies were beautifully led by Oberon, Puck and Titania - some beautiful singing of Shakespeare's words too. The mechanicals were quite simply hilarious - the wall, lion, and moonshine supported the tale of Pyramus and Thisbe perfectly. The Advance Theatre Company showed professionalism well beyond their years. It was a fantastic event - seeing the local audiences enjoying the festival and the energy and commitment of the performers.

LBCT is a community group run by volunteers with amazing experience and commitment. To give so much to the young people and to raise such a great amount for charity is excellent-well done to everyone involved.
